Will Muschamp

Will Muschamp has been the head coach of two SEC programs within the past four seasons. He is currently the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, but Muschamp also coached the Florida Gators from 2011 until 2014.

Muschamp was on Saban’s staff with the LSU Tigers from 2001 until 2004. He started out as the defensive backs coach, but he was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator when they won the national championship in 2003. Like Smart, Muschamp was also an assistant when Saban coached the Miami Dolphins.

Muschamp has been a successful defensive coordinator over the course of his career, but he struggled as a head coach. During his time with the Gators, Muschamp only had one season with a winning record in the SEC. He also had a losing record in the conference in his first season as the Gamecocks’ head coach.

However, South Carolina did finish second in the SEC East division this season with a winning record overall and in the conference.

Although things did not work out for Muschamp at Florida, he should have some success with the Gamecocks. Expectations are not usually as high at South Carolina as they are at Florida. With less pressure, Muschamp should be able to lead his team to a bowl game year in and year out and Gamecocks fans will probably be satisfied.
