Mississippi State football fans cheered the choice of Joe Moorhead as the Bulldog’s 33rd head coach. Is Moorhead the right man for the job?

Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is now the Mississippi State football head coach. The 2016 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year, Moorhead directed the 2016 Nittany Lions offense to national top 25 rankings in five different offensive categories and four 50-point games, the most in a Nittany Lions season since 1994.

Student improvement is the measure of a teacher, and in 2016, Moorhead’s first year as offensive coordinator, Penn State improved from number 105 in scoring nationally to number 21.

Gambling on the man

Moorhead  carries an impeccable resume and is hailed throughout the college football world as a great leader, man, and teacher.

Moorhead also never played or coached south of Pittsburgh or west of Akron. Mississippi State football is taking the biggest of gambles, wagering that Moorhead and the culture of Mississippi State and the Southeastern Conference will meet in mutual embrace.

It is easy to believe that Moorhead is the right man to lead Mississippi State football, but will he fit in at Starkville?
