The Fandom 250 is out! In this edition, the Florida Gators finished 151st overall, and 15th in college. You can check out the entire Fandom 250 right here!

The Florida Gators are one of the most powerful programs and fan bases in college athletics, and they rightfully earned their place among the top 15 in the Fandom 250.  Not only has the Gator football team been a vital, tier one program since the early nineties, but they have also seen success in basketball and on the diamond in both baseball and softball. Not to mention, they’ve even got three national titles this decade alone in gymnastics.

For Florida, the investment in their athletics can be clearly seen in the venues in which they compete. It could be McKethan stadium, where Gator Nation regularly fills the house for their juggernaut baseball team. It could be the newly renovated O’Connell Center. Better known as the “O Dome”, it recently underwent a $64.5 million reconstruction. It could be the legendary Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. “The Swamp” provides one the best home field atmospheres in college football.

What is arguably the best overall athletic department in the nation is supported by one of the best fan bases in the nation, known as both “Gator Nation”, and as “The Rowdy Reptiles”.

Gator Nation has some of the best traditions in the country. The Gator chomp is an instantly recognizable and iconic trademark of this great program. The Two Bits chant is an often imitated, but never duplicated tradition.

This year, a new tradition was adopted in The Swamp. After the death of Tom Petty, the legendary rocker born and raised in Gainesville, Gator Nation decided to pay tribute.

(If you’re curious about the boos early on in the video, those come from Gator fans who weren’t pleased with the LSU band trying to butt in on a great moment.)

The power of the Gator Nation

Gator Nation is a powerful fan base, and they have rightfully earned a spot among the elite in our rankings. However, the best is yet to come. Michael White is in year two, finding his bearings as head men’s basketball coach, and Dan Mullen has come to rescue the football program from the bland, uninspired malaise of Jim McElwain.

The reptiles will have plenty to be rowdy about in the coming years, and you can only look over your shoulder if you’re ahead of them in the FanSided Fandom 250.
