SEC Football: Previewing the New Year’s Day SEC bowl games

South Carolina, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Alabama are the five SEC teams that will play in postseason bowl games on New Year’s Day. No other Power Five conference has more than one team playing on the first day of the year.
The SEC has a total of nine teams playing in bowl games this season. Four teams from the conference will play in December, but for the first time in over six decades, five SEC teams will play in a New Year’s Day bowl.
Every team wants to be bowl eligible, but with so many bowl games played each postseason, simply playing in any bowl game is not as significant as it used to be. However, it is still a pretty big deal to get to play on Jan. 1.
Out of all the Power Five conferences, the SEC is not sending the most teams to a bowl game. However, the ACC, the Big 12 and the Big Ten each have no more than one team playing on New Year’s Day. The Pac-12 has no teams playing on the first day of the year.
