Columbia and the South Carolina football program sit two hours from Clemson and the Clemson Tigers and two hours from Athens and the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s a tough spot to recruit from.Thanks goodness it’s a whole 6 hours from Tuscaloosa.

It’s tough to upgrade roster talent when you are recruiting the same neighborhood as two of four teams in the College Football Playoff, but South Carolina football head coach Will Muschamp believes the Gamecocks did.

“The program got better today,” Muschamp said when discussing the Gamecock’s 20 player early signing class.

The South Carolina football head coach and his staff are trending up. After securing recruiting classes ranked number 25 and 21 nationally in 2016 and 2017, the Gamecocks claimed a 2018 class ranked number 17 in the nation and sixth in the SEC. It is South Carolina’s best national rating since 2012 and the best SEC ranking since 2009.
