SEC basketball opened conference play this weekend with tight contests across the board. A successful season requires winning at home, and that was the pattern throughout the conference.

Volunteers misfire

Arkansas opened SEC basketball play with an  overtime thriller, taking down number twenty-three ranked Tennessee in Fayetteville. With less than three minutes to play in the game, Arkansas went on a 12-3 run to force overtime and eventually win 95-93.

Tennessee then fell to Auburn in Knoxville, giving the Tigers a sweet conference opening 94-84 win and ending a tough weekend for the Volunteers.

Arkansas  then hit the road and lost to Mississippi State 78-75. The Bulldogs excelled against the patented Arkansas press, turning the ball over only seven times.
