Roquan Smith’s personal drama on 2015’s National Signing Day in Montezuma, Georgia, rivaled the Georgia football recruitment story of Herschel Walker’s Easter morning signing in1980.

Smith first announced at his signing day press conference he would play his college ball in the Rose Bowl for UCLA. But, after learning later on signing day of UCLA coaching changes, Smith changed his mind. In the only game he played in the Rose Bowl, Smith earned the defensive player of the game honors as a Bulldog for his effort in the Georgia football team’s 54-48 double overtime win against Oklahoma.

Walkers springtime choice of Georgia over Alabama and Clemson brought the  Bulldogs the 1980 National Championship. Roquan Smith’s flip from UCLA to Georgia made the Bulldogs a National Championship finalist.
