Dawgs win two at home
Earlier in the week, Ole Miss enjoyed an off night by pre-season SEC Player of the Year Yante Maten to stay within striking distance of Georgia in the Stegeman Coliseum. To defeat the Rebels, Georgia turned to fifth year senior Juwan Parker, who connected on all four of his shots from behind the arc.
Parker scored his first career double-double, leading the team with a career-high 18 points and career-tying 11 rebounds.
Alabama was not so fortunate later in the week in a 65-46 loss to Georgia.
Against the Tide, Yante Maten scored 26 points and recorded his seventh double-double of the season, shooting 57.1 percent from the arc on a career-high four for seven.
Super freshman guard Collin Sexton scored 23 of Alabama’s points – that would be half. No other Tide-ster scored more than eight.
Alabama also lost on the road to Vanderbilt, leaving the Tide at 1 – 2 in conference play. Alabama has no home losses, however.
Vanderbilt lost at South Carolina and like Alabama, is 1 -2 with no road losses.
South Carolina put itself behind the eight ball this week, though, losing at home to Missouri 79 – 68.
Missouri scored on nine of 16 three-point attempts in the first half, giving the Tigers a 39-27 halftime lead over the Gamecocks. Kassius Robertson’s three-pointer with 1:17 left in the first half gave Missouri its biggest lead of the half 39-23.
