South Carolina basketball beats up the Bulldogs

Chris Silva said, “I call it South Carolina basketball.”

Whatever it is – say it with me:

it’s ugly.

The Gamecocks beat Georgia while shooting 27% from the field.

“I call it South Carolina basketball.” – Chris Silva

Against the Dawgs, South Carolina owned the offensive glass in the first half for a 37- 29 lead. The Gamecocks had 11 second chance points to Georgia’s two in the first half.

Georgia turned that around a bit in the second half, scoring eight second chance points to South Carolina’s three. The Dawgs managed to negate that advantage by making only 10 of 19 free throws in the second half – the Dawgs got the ugly on them.

Frank Booker buried Georgia late, scoring six of his team leading 17 points on two late three point shots.

Chris Silva was tenacious and tormenting, scoring 14 and claiming nine rebounds.

Mark Fox’s  Bulldogs knew the ugly was coming into the Stegeman Coliseum, they just did not respond.

“We anticipated it would be a slugfest and when you have a game like that you have to rebound and make free throws and we didn’t do that.”

Senior forward Yante Maten scored 25 in addition to tying his season-highs for blocks with four. Red-shirt senior guard Juwan Parker scored 11 points.
