A Georgia football life back on the rails

In 2016, Jonathan Ledbetter accepted discipline for his second alcohol and drug possession arrest. He entered an “intensified education, counseling and medical assistance program.”  Ledbetter left the team temporarily to enroll in an alcohol assessment program. When he returned to the team, he had no misses left in Georgia’s “three strikes your out” drug and alcohol policy.

Ledbetter is still with the Georgia football team. By all accounts, Ledbetter returned to the team after his athletic department mandated six game suspension a new man.

“I think he’s got his best football still ahead of him” – Mel Tucker

“I was working twice as hard, working out three or four times a week,” Mark Schlabach quoted  Ledbetter the week of the National Championship game. “It was a period for me to enhance every single skill in my body and my mental [state]. I really came back stronger from it because I put in so much work during that time.”

Ledbetter ranks as just the eighth best defensive end in the 2019 NFL draft, but Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker believes he can be better. “I think he’s got his best football still ahead of him.”
