Defensive Secondary

The Georgia defensive secondary returns one starter. Kirby Smart summed up the obvious.

“We had a unique unit of DBs that played a long time. With them gone, we’re trying to get some guys in here to fill that void.”

Multi-year Stalwarts Dominick Sanders, Aaron Davis or Malkom Parrish are gone. The Georgia football coaches knew they would leave one day, and tried to prepare.

Said Smart, “We’ve tried to get some guys in here, not only just signing [this year], but last year that can fill that void.”

“We’ve got a long way to go in the secondary.”

Starters? Check

The Dawgs should be fine when they trot out their starters. Deandre Baker, J.R. Reed, Tyrique McGhee, Richard LeCounte all played significant minutes in big moments in 2017. While the group may not have honed their skills to Smart’s satisfaction, they may be more talented than the players they replace. But who replaces the replacers?

We have some good front line players, but we don’t have the guys that when a guy goes down for a game, what are you going to do? What’s your answer?”

Inquiring Bulldog minds want to know, Coach.

We’ve got a long way to go in the secondary.”

Not the answer we wanted, Coach.
