It’s a new season and a new Sanford Stadium look for Georgia Bulldog fans. There is also a football game as the Dawgs host Austin Peay.

The Georgia Bulldog football team faces Austin Peay today in a football game in Sanford Stadium. But the star of the show won’t be Jake Fromm or Kirby Smart. It will be Sanford Stadium. Keep up with the cast of characters.

New locker rooms

Fans won’t see the new locker rooms, but they will see the Bulldogs run through of the “wrong” endzone to enter the field. Watch for the well-informed real fans as they point west for thirty minutes before kick off to let you and everyone else know the locker rooms were moved to “bout under the bridge.” If you have trouble keeping up, just watch the Redocats as they form the traditional tunnel for the Georgia Bulldogs to run through minutes before game time.

That big rock Georgia Bulldog

The 5000 pound granite Bulldog that sat in the east endzone since the beginning of creation – well, only since 1992 – has been relocated. The stated reason is to create ground level premium seating where the old locker rooms once set. Some people are up in arms, especially Georgia Bulldog fans in Elberton from whence the granite was quarried and the statue constructed eons ago. Well, only 25 years ago.

More from Georgia Bulldogs

Apologies to the fine artist that created the art work, but the subject far out paces the ultimate creation. It’s best to take this opportunity to move it. We’re not  Clemson, we don’t need any kind of rock to rub or anything.

The Granite Bulldog can still be viewed, of course, under the bridge at the northwest corner of the stadium. So take the kids and go have a look. The advantage is fans can now actually enjoy it.

The big score board

The fuss over the Georgia Bulldogs playing in front of a tiny antiquated score board has been replaced by the fuss over Sanford Stadiums too big structure which replaces a practically new scoreboard.

That’s OK, we used to fuss over playing Dixie, so we’re getting better.

The new scoreboard is 30 percent larger than the old scoreboard and part of a media upgrade which includes a new sound system perfect for thumping our hip hop before the Redcoats are in place.

Prediction: no one will complain once they see the new scoreboard in action and hear the new sound system.

Recruiting lounge.

Of course, the  point to all these upgrades – which include may other enhancements for fans, is to entice seventeen and eighteen year-olds to come chase a pointed end ball around Sanford Stadium. To that end, the new Sanford Stadium recruiting lounge under the west stands is the center piece of the renovation. Unless you are very big and very fast, you wont’ see it, unless you give lots of money to the  University of Georgia, that is.

The highlights include a seventeen foot ceiling recruiting lounge with a stage, dozens of TVs, lounge and dining furniture, decorated in designer red, black, and Bulldog. The key element of the lounge, however, is location. The lounge sits above the Georgia Bulldog locker rooms, providing easy access for coaches to visit after games and recruits to visit the locker room. It is also easily accessed from outside the stadium, allowing the recruits to enjoy the Dawg Walk while being treated like royalty
