Georgia football plays early for SEC East title
Eastern odds
Florida has talent, but they also have a new coach . First year coaches with the rarest of exceptions make too many mistakes with players and in games.
Tennessee just lacks both talent and has a new coach.
Kentucky has potential SEC Player of the Year Benny Snell at running back, but there isn’t enough talent across the board to stop the Dawgs. Coach Stoops has also demonstrated an unfortunate knack for losing games he could more easily win.
Vanderbilt does beat the Dawgs occasionally, all too occasionally, but the roster is too thin to beat Georgia or challenge for the East title. Plus, this Georgia team will not be in a position to again run a tiny flanker off tackle while it’s best runner blocks on fourth down with the game on the line.
The distant second
Missouri is the likely runner-up to the Dawgs in the East. The Tigers get the Dawgs at home, and Missouri has beaten Georgia in recent years. They certainly have the quarterback talent to do it again in Pre-season All-SEC pick Drew Lock.
However, Georgia plays Missouri on September 22 when the season’s fatigue and injuries begin to separate the elite teams from the good teams. The only team that can stop the Smart Train from rolling into Atlanta in December is South Carolina.
