With senior potential NFL first round picks Deandre Baker and J. R. Reed in the defensive backfield, the last thing Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker want is an elite quarterback picking through Bulldog blitzes to throw darts at elite receivers or running through a red and black broken field to laser the ball between scrambling defenders.

Instead, the Dawgs focus on giving their elite defensive backfield the best opportunity to do what they do best – defend.

Jonathan Ledbetter spells it for fans screaming for the adrenaline rush of a big sack.

“You’ve got to basically pass rush from the line of scrimmage and just try to get back there as fast as you can and have good pocket push,” Ledbetter said. “A really good way to affect [the quarterback] is to make him step up and get uncomfortable in the pocket. That just comes with level pass rush and everybody working together in the pass rush game.”
