LSU tailbacks will lead the charge

With quarterback Joe Burrow completing just 49 percent of his passes and averaging 6.9 yards per attempt, look for LSU to run first, last and always. In return, expect Ole Miss to load the box with plus one, two, or three from the coin toss.

While the Ole Miss defensive front showed life against Ken State, in the three games prior it was downright terrible, earning just 1.5 sacks and allowing 200 rushing yards a game. On the other hand, one game was against Alabama.

On the other hand, one game was against FCS program Southern Illinois. Against the Salukis the defense gave up over 500 yards of offense, 241 on the ground.

Double-barrel runners Nick Brossette and Clyde Edwards-Helaire

LSU, having now tested both its running and passing against Miami and Auburn and having observed the Ole Miss defense, will choose to bring running backs Nick Brossette and Clyde Edwards-Helaire to bear on the Rebel defense. Brossette has rushed for 409 yards and 5 TDs on 83 carries this year. Backup Edwards-Helaire has rushed for 208 yards and 4 TDs.

The Tigers will open with their fifth different set of offensive line starters.

The line of scrimmage matchup between LSU and Ole Miss should weigh heavily in the Tigers favor. The wildcard this year is LSU’s decimated offensive line. The Tigers will open with their fifth different set of offensive line starters against Ole Miss, and will be absent All-SEC guard Garrett Brumfield.
