Stealing plays is paramount: LSU football vs Florida
Florida linebackers vs LSU football
Against Kentucky, Florida could not handle the rushing attack led by quarterback Terry Wilson and running back Bennie Snell. One of Kentucky’s most successful plays came when running the split zone pictured above. The offensive line is zone blocking left with the center and left guard double teaming up to the linebacker.
Florida’s linebackers are extremely aggressive, but take horrible angles in the run game. They constantly get caught up in the wash and cannot make plays on the ball carrier. This leaves plenty of space for runners and one-on-one opportunities with third-level defenders.
Many different uses
I can see the LSU football team employing fullback Tory Carter as the h-back and running this play into the ground against Florida. There are other advantages this play could bring for the LSU offense.
Florida has very athletic defensive ends in Jachai Polite and Jabari Zuniga, both of which are excellent when tracking down runs on the back side. By influencing with the h-back, this could slow Polite/Zuniga just enough when running zone in the opposite direction. Also, a staple in many offenses is the play action throw to the full back in the flats. This play could turn into three successful plays for the Tigers.
