Beating Florida’s zone

When facing the bunch formation, Florida (and many other teams) likes to play zone and pick up routes as they enter that player’s zone. Tennessee had two successful instances of running the chase concept.

It stresses the corners near the line of scrimmage. Running a drag (3) takes the slot corner out of the picture, and running a 15-yard dig (2) occupies the outside corner’s eyes just enough. After some slight hesitation, the perfect clearance is created for inner-most slot receiver (1) to run a slant with zero resistance.

With the bevy of receivers the LSU football team has, they can mix and match the combinations. When a third down conversion is desperately needed, LSU would be foolish not to add a play like this into the game-plan.
