Georgia football’s blurred vision
Not a once in a while thing
In 2016, twice Georgia tried an end around pass with Terry Godwin against Auburn. The first was intercepted, the second, a fourth quarter pass thrown toward quarterback Jacob Eason, nearly resulted in Eason being cut in three pieces. Georgia won the game and the plays were, thankfully, forgotten.
The trick against Vanderbilt several weeks earlier is memorable because it cost Georgia the game.
On fourth and short and the Bulldogs needing a first down at the Commodore 41 yard line to keep a game winning drive alive, Georgia sent flanker Isaiah McKenzie in motion. Vanderbilt promptly called timeout. It was as if the Commodores took time to review the Bulldog playbook.
When the play restarted after the timeout, the Dawgs best runner, Nick Chubb, was asked to block for Isaiah McKenzie as he drove off right tackle. Choosing to let its best runner decoy and then block, and its smallest flanker carry the ball off tackle in the biggest moment of the game destroyed the Bulldog season.
