Receivers deliver D’Andre Swift for Georgia football
Georgia football running back D’Andre Swift began the season hurt. He’s well now, and the Bulldog ground game is delivering for the Bulldogs.
After the Georgia football team lost to LSU, Dawg fans hoped for an early visit from Santa to salvage their dreams for the season.
Thankfully for this Georgia football team, there is a Santa Clause, and he’s the Bulldog receiver corps.
The Geogria receivers, AKA Santa, first delivered a new healthy D’Andre Swift at the early Gator Bowl Christmas Party.
Watch that again, you know you want to. After the Bulldog line mashes the Gator defense at the point of attack, the Bulldog receivers guide Swift through the Gator defense like Santa’s sleigh through a snow shower.
By game end, the Georgia football ground attack had gained 189 yards against the Gators.
Georgia football trending on the ground
The Bulldog ground game that exploded against Florida then became a trend against Kentucky.
Again the middle the Georgia offensive line defeats the center of the defense and reaches the second level defenders. And again, the Georgia receivers, this time Mecole Hardman and Riley Ridley at the bottom of the screen, contain the defensive backs to create space for Swift to work his magic on the attacking Kentucky safety.
Jeremiah Holloman is hunting a blue helmet, too. He didn’t find one on this play, but he sprung Swift for the 83 yard touchdown that drove the first nail in the Wild Cat coffin.
The block by Holloman highlights the harmonious interplay between Swift and the Georgia receivers. As the Dawgs persist in their down field blocking mission, Swift’s spectacular direction changes deliver the shortest route to the endzone.
Long runs a habit
The trend of explosive ground plays became a habit against Auburn. The final touchdown against the Tigers should never have happened, but Bulldog receivers Mecole Hardman, then Isaac Nauta followed by Terry Godwin pulled Swift across midfield like thoroughbreds before slingshot-ing him toward the endzone.
With Swift healthy and the Bulldogs impassioned blocking, Swift collected 186 yards against the Tigers. Add Elijah Holyfield into the mix, and the Bulldog pair collected 175 yards rushing against Florida, 271 yards rushing against Kentucky, and 279 yards rushing against Auburn.
The main thing becomes the main thing
Still a work in progress, this Georgia football team has much to do before facing Alabama, but the main thing for a team that insists on running the ball is explosive plays on the ground. The Dawg wide receivers have that figured out.
The main thing left to figure out on offense is how to get the lineman healthy. If that happens, Georgia has a shot at a Christmas miracle on the first Saturday in December.
