Georgia football recruiting sent the Alabama faithful to the edge last week with the  Dawg commitment of Alabama offensive line prospect Clay Webb.

Georgia football fans love their Bulldog tunes, but nothing compares to the sweet sound of Alabama whining. Hey! I think we got us a country song.

Sweet sounds of an Alabama whine, the sweet taste of a five-star line.

Ok maybe not, but after nearly a decade of grumbling about Nick Saban’s recruiting tactics, it’s a lot of fun for Georgia football fans to hear the Alabama faithful, even those that miss Alabama home games, spinning conspiracy theories about Kirby Smart.

Alabama whine country

Last Monday,  Alabama native Clay Webb announced his commitment to Georgia football. The historic spurning of Alabama by an instate recruit prompted comparisons to the CIA and references to “Kirby shenanigans.”

The response is startling. Webb’s mother is from Atlanta. Most of her family still lives in Atlanta. Webb’s Aunt graduated from Georgia as did her husband. These facts somehow escaped Alabama fans, prompting RollBamaRoll.com to suggest Webb has a future with the CIA.

More like Alabama fans should be disqualified from working in US intelligence. “Mr. President, recent reports suggest Russia has submarines.”

There are nine million people living in Georgia. Perhaps Nick Saban needs to fire his counter-intelligence staff and get some competent people in there, find out who they are all kin to.

Tide fears of Georgia football deceit?

The theory postulated by Alabama fans is that Webb wanted to commit to Georgia, but Smart asked him to wait and commit at some key inflection point in the recruiting cycle so it would seem Georgia is building recruiting momentum. As RollBamaRoll said it, “make it look like [Smart] snatched Webb away from Saban’s clutches at the last second.”

First, with Georgia ranked second nationally in recruiting with three-five star talents already committed when young Mister Webb took the podium, Georgia doesn’t just “seem” to have recruiting momentum. To quote Miss Mona Lisa Vito, “It’s a fact!”

Second, Alabama fan claims of Georgia football recruiting shenanigans is lullaby music to Georgia football fans. After all, since Kirby Smart once recruited for Nick Saban, Dawg fans know all the words and love singing along.

No, there’s more!

Alabama is poised to have the greatest football recruiting class since Al Gore invented recruiting rankings, but Georgia isn’t through, either. With  national top running back Trey Sanders showing Georgia  some late Twitter love and Mississippi five-star linebacker Nakobe Dean a Dawg-Tide battle, more Alabama moaning and groaning could be on the way.

And with America’s top receive Jadon Haselwood  now re-thinking his Georgia de-commit with a plan for a January announcement, the New Year could be a lot of fun for Georgia football fans.

So on Wednesday, as Dawg people crawl down I85 or up the Oconee Connector, they’ll be cranking up Sweet Home Alabama  while hoping for the sounds of Tide fans singing their favorite song.
