A corporate decision

Hiring an offensive coordinator will be a corporate decision made by Kirby Smart, big Georgia football supporters which, ironically, under Smart have increased in number, and, yes, Jake Fromm and his family. If that bugs you, get over it, because the boosters have paid too much not to be heard, and too much depends on Jake Fromm’s comfort and confidence for him not to be considered in the process.

It’s very likely Mike Bobo, with his connection and personal loyalty and friendship to Mark Richt, can’t get past the Bulldog boosters. And then there’s Kirby Smart and the whole confidence and loyalty issue.

Bad blood rumors

In 2005, Mike Bobo coached with Kirby Smart under Mark Richt. Smart then left to work for Nick Saban and the Miami Dolphins and coach for Saban at Alabama. When Smart arrived in Tuscaloosa, Georgia football fans accused Smart of stealing state secrets from the Butts-Mehre building and using them to undermine Georgia football recruiting. Smart was also accused of telling tales on the Georgia staff to sway recruits.

More than likely, Smart was just better at the cutthroat business of college football recruiting. That’s why, after all, he was hired at as Georgia football head coach. But if there is a spark of conflict beneath this smoke of fan fury, it’s difficult to imagine Smart offering Mike Bobo a position on his staff.

On the other hand, big time college football makes for strange bedfellows.
