National Signing Day 2019: Ranking the 6 Best SEC Football Classes
Florida comes in at No. 4 on our list for closing out really well in the 2019 recruiting cycle. As for 247Sports, the Gators rank No. 8 overall and No. 5 in the SEC.
Head coach Dan Mullen did a great job finishing this class on National Signing Day and got some outstanding players.
As a whole, the Gators class includes 17 4-stars and eight 3-stars.
The Gators beat out Texas A&M and LSU for some reasons. One of those reasons is their offensive line class.
Florida’s offensive line desperately needed some depth to it, and the Gators did it by signing seven offensive linemen.
Another high note to this recruiting class is keeping Keon Zipperer at home. The four-star tight end had a lot of schools out for his commitment, and he chose to stay home with the Gators.
Florida also signed an impressive secondary class. Leading that group is Chris Steele, the No. 5 CB in the country and the No. 6 player in California.
Mullen and his staff did an excellent job plucking these good football players from all over the country and from rivals states.
The Gators plucked Jaelin Humphries, a four-star defensive tackle, from Georgia and got him to commit.
Another one is Jalon Jones, a dual-threat quarterback from Virginia. Mullen went outside of Florida and grabbed what he needed in states that don’t usually give up kids without a fight.
However, the Gators had two big wins during the February National Signing Day.
The first win of the day is keeping four-star cornerback Kaiir Elam home at Florida.
After the Gators lost its defensive backs coach Charlton Warren to Georgia, it was unsure if Elam would end up with the Gators or not.
Well, he chose Florida over the Bulldogs and help solidify a strong finish.
As for the other big win was getting Khris Bogle to sign with them. Bogle was a long time Alabama commitment and the Gators swooped in and got him to flip.
These two wins are why the Gators sit above the Aggies and the Tigers. Florida signed a solid class and really filled its needs with a group of talented prospects.
