Alabama Football: Ranking the Top 5 Running Backs in Nick Saban’s Era
3: Trent Richardson
Trent Richardson, a name that if you love SEC or college football, you know it. He sits at No. 3 on this list because of how prolific he was at Alabama.
Richardson wasted no time when he got to Alabama and was able to contribute on the field early on in his career.
During his three years at Alabama, he recorded 3,130 yards, 35 touchdowns and averaged 5.8 yards a carry.
One thing is for sure, Richardson found a way to get into the endzone, especially his junior year.
Richardson was not human during his junior season. He was the first running back from Alabama to win the Doak Walker Award. Richardson also placed third in the 2011 Heisman Trophy voting and got robbed from the title.
What made him prolific was his vision of the field and being able to find those holes. He was shifty, quick, and ran with a vengeance. Richardson not only could run the ball but had great hands to catch it too.
There wasn’t much that Richardson couldn’t do. He carried the offense in the national championship game and ran over every defense he faced.
Richardson was an all-around running back for Alabama and helped the Tide out as much as he could.
