A hero to save the day

Great teams have heroes, and for Georgia baseball it’s Aaron Schunk. When the Gamecocks threatened and Dawg pitching faltered on Saturday, Mr. Do-It-All Aaron Schunk picked up where he left off in 2018 as the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award finalist, strolling over to the mound from third base after going 2 for 4 with an RBI to shut down the Gamecocks for the save.

Sunday, the Bulldogs brought the leather and the drama. After using five pitchers on Saturday , Georgia baseball sent Tony Locey to face the Gamecocks. Locey scattered three hits and three walks in seven innings.

Great teams pick up each other, and when Locey got in trouble, the Bulldog defense rode to the rescue. In the fifth inning with the bases loaded, right fielder Riley King caught a fly ball and threw a strike to catcher Mason Meadows for the double play. The defensive gem allowed the Dawgs to hang around for eight innings with a one run deficit before exploding for four runs in the top of the ninth.
