Kyle Trask has been a pleasant surprise for Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators. The 6’5 junior went from being a backup high school quarterback to becoming a possible Heisman candidate for the 2020 season.

And the road to get here was quite unlikely, to say the least.

After Feleipe Franks went down with a gruesome leg injury against Kentucky last season, Kyle Trask was thrown into the game as a last prayer.

Very few expected the Gators to win that game in Lexington, much less finish the season with an 11-2 record, led by the unlikely hero.

But Trask proved everyone wrong and ended the year with just under 3,000 yards passing and 25 touchdowns to help catapult the Gators to their second straight New Years Six bowl game.

If he can continue to improve, expect for Florida to make it three straight appearances.

Now, the standards have elevated for Trask after coming off a spectacular year. Many fans expect Florida to make a run for the Playoffs- something that hasn’t happened in the entirety of the College Football Playoffs lifespan.

However, it’s likely that the Gators can achieve this, even after losing some of Trask’s most valuable targets. Freddie Swain, Van Jefferson, Tyrie Cleveland, and Josh Hammond have all graduated and moved on from the team, but Trask has a couple of more weapons at his disposal heading into 2020.

We can expect Kyle Pitts to put up some big numbers and Jacob Copeland will also be returning after coming off his first true season with the Gators.

The Manvel quarterback had no issues finding these guys during the 2019 season, we should expect the same results heading into 2020.

What makes Trask so dangerous isn’t his physical tools or athleticism, but rather his curiosity and will to learn. You can always count on him to be prepared for each and every game.

The only real knock on Trask last season were his struggles staying aware in the pocket. Too many times Florida witnessed Trask take sacks that could have been avoided with a slight shift of the feet.

That shouldn’t be too big of an issue in 2020…

Trask once again proves that he will always be prepared for any situation.

And that’s why he will be the best quarterback in the SEC for the 2020 season.
