SEC Football Fan Rankings: South Carolina

Every year, South Carolina fans seem to want to enter into the “this is our year” fanbase sweepstakes, but they just never seem to gain a lot of steam.

Part of the problem is the split among Gamecocks fans about whether or not they like and support head coach Will Muschamp. If you look on social media it seems to be a 50/50 split from Carolina fans who think he should have already been fired to those who are convinced he’s one recruit away from replicating Steve Spurrier‘s success.

The problem is, South Carolina fans are desperately trying to find something on which to latch on and give them a rallying point. Without any real success to build on for the last six years, it’s hard for fans to find that one thing.

Could quarterback Ryan Hilinski be the catalyst for them again this season? He’s a great kid with a backstory that’s hard not to root for. That might be Cocky’s ticket out of fan doldrums.

Williams-Brice stadium can really rock when this fanbase gets fired up. It would be great to see Sandstorm become a thing again on Saturdays.
