As we all know, the return of college athletics has been the topic of discussion for quite sometime now. Thankfully, the NCAA voted for athletics to resume in 3 sports.

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly taken its toll and put the entire spectrum of sports at a standstill. Many feared that the college football season would be cancelled after hearing conflicting news for the past few months.

But just a week ago, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the entire state of Florida would be open for state-restricted professional teams to play at surrounding stadiums and arenas in the sunshine region.

This means that Florida is definitely fighting to get athletics back on time.

Today, we received even better news.

Per reports, an NCAA vote now permit student-athletes to voluntarily return back to campus for workouts beginning June 1st through the 30th.

This not only allows for college football players to begin prepping for the 2020 season, but it also includes college basketball- both men and women.

Although, it does not mean that all three sports will immediately return, as the state and local government must also approve, but it does mean that college athletics just took another step in the right direction.

A college athletic director briefly explained the guidelines that each school will take to ensure safety for all players.

Apparently, schools may allow for groups of 25 to 30 athletes to attend weight room meetings. The groups will take turns using the weight room until the NCAA clears for all team members to return at once.

Now, there will also be a testing protocol in place that will be left for University officials to come up with; however, the pricey $100 cost of each test will prove to cause some issues- which is why the NCAA is staying out of it and leaving it for the schools to figure out.

What this means for college football and the NCAA.

While this is only a small step in the right direction, it is a step. After all, just a month ago, we were unsure if there would even be sports during the fall and winter.

Now we finally have a little more insight on where the NCAA stands on the issue.

The NCAA would not be going through this process if they felt that college football and basketball were out of the question. It seems that the hope that we all shared at one time is finally coming to fruition as college sports are preparing to return.

If the organization voted against the continuation, it would be highly unlikely that we would see sports this fall. The players certainly need a head start to prepare for the season.

Ultimately, preparation makes for better play, and also allows for the players to be physically and mentally ready so that injuries can avoided.

Realistically, no one wants to see players at 60% and dragging through games. The proposal now allows for competitors to get into the swing of things so that athletics will return to its purest form.

And thanks to the NCAA, it looks like we’ll be able to resume play at 100%.
