Arkansas football: 5 reasons why the Razorbacks will improve in 2020
By Ty Butler
New Arkansas football head coach: Sam Pittman
The most important addition to Arkansas football is none other than Sam Pittman- the former Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach.
During his time in Athens, Pittman sent a total of 6 lineman to the NFL and played a major role in the offensive line success that propelled the Bulldogs to 3 SEC Championship games.
This is great news for Arkansas, who struggled in the trenches for the past two seasons.
It’s almost certain that there will be major improvements to the unit when considering the knowledge that Pittman ushers to Fayetteville.
In addition, Pittman will also introduce an all-star supporting cast with former Missouri head coach Barry Odom, and the controversial, but ever so talented Kendal Briles.
However, the Razorbacks are in dire need of improvements on defense after finishing in the bottom portion of the SEC in most defensive categories.
After being asked by PigTrailNation whether the Hogs plan to run a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme in 2020, Odom sarcastically replied “Yes”.
He also added:
"“It’s gonna depend on the skills that we have. I would say we will be very multiple, especially this first year.”"
Arkansas fans should expect to see multiple fronts that utilize player and team strengths. This should prove to be beneficial after being tied to a specific scheme in 2020.
Offensively, the Razorbacks need just as much help as they do on defense. Briles runs a similar pedal-to-the-metal strategy that Arkansas had used in the past. But we can expect to see more passing than before.
Overall, I’d say that Pittman pieced together a fantastic group.
There’s a lot to be excited about here.
