Florida football finally ended their May drought with a new commit.

The month of May proved to be a rough stretch for Florida football after numerous incidents plagued the program. Not only did a former player berate the coaching staff, but an assistant coach also happened to get involved in a Twitter fight with an opposing commit.

Not necessarily the best look for Dan Mullen and company.

Plus, Jeremy Pruitt’s aggressive recruiting surge left Gator fans feeling left in the dark after a pretty harsh dry spell.

Something good was bound to happen, right?

Well, the tough month of May finally came to an end after 4-star ATH Charles Montgomery ultimately picked Florida football over the new-look Maryland Terrapins.

Although many projected the Armwood High School standout to side with the Gators, Maryland had potential after gathering Taulia Tagovailoa earlier this month.

Thankfully, Montgomery decided to take his talents Gainesville.

What this means for Florida football?

While Montgomery’s 5’10 stature isn’t much to right home about, his versatility and ability to play multiple positions certainly is. During his three-year stint with Armwood, Montgomery occupied the role of a tailback, wide out and slot.

However, we’ll probably see his role restricted to just slot when considering Mullen’s love for big-bodied outside receivers.

But that’s okay. He should find success carving up linebackers and safeties with mismatches.

And after looking at his highlight film, I can’t help but to make comparisons with former Florida slot receiver Brandon Powell.

Powell was a small, but speedy and durable receiver who occupied dead zones in the defense. I think we’ll see Montgomery play a similar role in Mullen’s scheme.

And if Montgomery can manage to have half of the success that Powell had, I’d say that the commit had a pretty good career in Gainesville.
