SEC football: Top 5 running backs for 2020 season
Isaiah Spiller hit SEC defenses like a Randy Orton RKO last year. Out of nowhere, he became a guy to fear as a true freshman at Texas A&M.
Spiller started in seven games, and appeared in every game last season, finishing as the Aggies leading rusher for the season. He tied a school single-game rushing record for freshmen against UTSA when he rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns
His 946 rushing yards were good for ninth in the conference, and his 10 rushing touchdowns left him tied for fourth in the SEC. His workload catching passes may increase this year, as will his overall touches.
The return of Kellen Mond is a good thing for Spiller who was developing some great on-field rapport with his quarterback during the 2019 season. Mond’s threat as a runner can leave some nice space for Spiller to do his thing.
Darkhorse Heisman candidate is the label given to Spiller this offseason, but it’s very possible by mid-year he may be one of the frontrunners for the award.
