SEC football: Top 5 running backs for 2020 season
Seldom mentioned (although he should be) as one of the SEC’s best running backs, Kylin Hill has a chance to put together a very special year at Mississippi State this season.
Hill is a compact, power runner who has the ability to shake defenders at the line of scrimmage, as well as using his speed to outrun linebackers and defensive backs when in the open field. When you watch him run his vision and ability to hit holes is reminiscent of LaDainian Tomlinson.
What makes Hill so dangerous this year is his pass-catching ability and superb route-running. He makes cuts and jukes like a seasoned wide receiver. This will fall perfectly into place with Mike Leach’s air raid offense, where backs are expected to catch-and-run even more than having it handed off.
In 2019, Hill hit a career-high 1,350 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, adding in18 receptions for 180 yards. His overall yards-from-scrimmage may only go up a little, but the pass yards vs rush yards will definitely swing in opposite directions.
If Hill can grasp the concept of the Leach offense quickly, there will be Heisman talk about him very early on in the season.
