Disliked SEC football announcers: Beth Mowins – ESPN

This one is perplexing because as far as football knowledge is concerned, Mowins is absolutely one of the best there is. She’s got a clear, projected voice and doesn’t trip over her words a lot. She’s also one of the hardest workers in the business.

But SEC fans love expressing their displeasure when they find out Mowins is calling their game. Not because she shows any particular bias, but simply because (from the general tone of the responses) she’s a woman — and the dislike doesn’t even just come from men.

Seems like fans are fine with her calling softball or women’s basketball games but put her in the booth at a football game and everyone loses their minds (to paraphrase a certain Gotham villain).

SEC fans should give Mowins a serious listen. She deserves better than the cyber-raspberries she gets on a regular basis.
