SEC Baseball: Preseason power rankings for 2022 season
By Matt Melton
7. Georgia Bulldogs
If you were to look for the “sleeper team” in SEC Baseball entering the 2022 season, then Georgia might just be the answer.
Coming off a 31-25 season a year ago that resulted in a 13-17 SEC record, the Bulldogs just missed postseason play last season, but should return to a regional in 2022 led by an experienced roster full of familiar faces.
Georgia only lost a few notable names from last season, with the most-notable being Riley King in the lineup, as well as pitchers Ryan Webb, Ben Harris, and Darryn Pasqua. As for the returning options, essentially the Bulldogs entire starting lineup returns alongside Florida transfer addition Cory Acton.
Experienced hitters in Connor Tate, Josh McAllister, and Cole Tate will lead the Georgia lineup after all batting for a .300+ AVG a year ago, while countless others such as Corey Collins, Chaney Rogers, Fernando Gonzalez, Garrett Blaylock, and Ben Anderson all return. As for the rotation, both Jonathan Cannon and Luke Wagner return, while the bullpen will be anchored by the returning trio of Jack Gowen, Nolan Crisp, and Michael Polk, as well as Jaden Woods who could see time in both.
The Bulldogs are a very-experienced team, and should return to postseason play this season as one of the SEC’s better teams. No, I’m not saying that Georgia will win the SEC this season, but don’t be shocked if the Bulldogs surprise some people in 2022.
