Alabama Football: Recapping the 2022 transfer portal additions so far
By Matt Melton
Looking back now, there were few teams who had more success in the transfer portal last offseason than Alabama Football.
Landing two impactful transfers in Jameson Williams (Ohio State) and Henry To’o To’o (Tennessee), both Williams and To’o To’o started from day one for the Crimson Tide, with both leading Alabama in receiving and tackling during the 2021 season.
As expected, the Crimson Tide have had success once again in the transfer portal so far this offseason, landing three names that will all likely start for the Crimson Tide in 2022, each of which are rated among the Top 10 overall transfers according to the 247Sports Transfer Rankings.
Recapping Alabama Football’s 2022 transfer portal additions so far
Eli Ricks
The Crimson Tide’s first transfer portal addition came back in late-December with Ricks, a former five-star recruit and two-year starter at LSU. Collecting 31 tackles and five interceptions across 16 games the past two seasons in Baton Rouge, Ricks was a Second Team All-SEC and Freshman All-American selection back in 2020, and is likely cemented as one of Alabama’s two starting corners entering the spring.
Jahmyr Gibbs
Alabama’s first of two offensive transfer additions, Gibbs comes to Tuscaloosa off two impressive seasons at Georgia Tech in which the versatile running back accounted for 1,979 yards and 13 touchdowns. One of the better pass-catching running backs in the entire country, Gibbs will join a loaded running back room in Tuscaloosa, and enters the 2022 season as one of the Crimson Tide’s top options in the backfield.
Jermaine Burton
The most-recent addition, Burton joins the Crimson Tide from defending national champion Georgia where the 6-foot wide receiver has accounted for a combined 901 yards and eight touchdowns on 53 catches the last two seasons. Burton will likely start from day one for the Crimson Tide, and is a candidate to take a jump similar to Williams a year ago.
