How will the 2022 SEC Tournament impact Bracketology?
While a majority of the top teams playing in this year’s SEC Tournament will be playing for seeding, there are also a few teams playing to get into the NCAA Tournament as well.
When looking for which two teams this likely impacts most, Florida and Texas A&M immediately come to mind, both of which are included in the “Next Four Out” category according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi entering the week.
As for what the Gators and Aggies must do to get in the NCAA Tournament, the two teams play each other on Thursday to begin the second round, with the loser eliminated from tournament contention. As for the winner, that team would likely have to win at-least one-to-two more games in Tampa to get in (aka beat Auburn on Friday), as well as receive some help (other non-SEC teams on the Bubble lose).
For the teams already in the NCAA Tournament, they will mainly be playing for seeding, with either Auburn or Kentucky receiving a one-seed if they win the SEC Tournament. Tennessee or Arkansas will likely receive either a two-or-three seed if they go on a run in Tampa, while Alabama and LSU enter the week as a five and six-seed.
