With both teams having opened play at the 2022 SEC Tournament on Friday night, both Tennessee and Kentucky took care of business with two impressive victories over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

Now set to collide for the third time this season, both Tennessee and Kentucky have dominated the home matchups over the other this season (107-79 Kentucky W in Lexington, 76-63 Tennessee W in Knoxville). With a chance to play for an SEC Tournament championship up for grabs in the third matchup on a neutral court, we are certainly set for a very-entertaining 40 minutes between the SEC’s two-and-three seeds.

A projected No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Tennessee comes into this contest having won their last five games, two of which came against Auburn and Arkansas. Also the nation’s No. 3 team in defensive efficiency according to KenPom, the Volunteers are led by the exciting backcourt trio of Kennedy Chandler, Santiago Vescovi, and Zakai Zeigler, as well as one of the most-experienced frontcourt players in the conference in John Fulkerson.

Kentucky on the other hand is a projected two-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and could very well end up receiving a one-seed should the Wildcats win the 2022 SEC Tournament. Sitting at 26-6 for the year, the Wildcats are led by the 2021-22 SEC Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe (17.3 PPG, 15.3 RPG), as well as deep group of guards in TyTy Washington Jr, Sahvir Wheeler, and Kellan Grady.

Tennessee vs Kentucky 2022 SEC Tournament Prediction

It’s strength vs strength – one of the SEC’s top defensive teams in Tennessee (allow 63.3 PPG) facing-off against one of the SEC’s top offensive teams in Kentucky (average 80.1 PPG).

This will certainly be a very-entertaining game for 40 minutes, one where you could make a legit argument for both teams as the favorite going in. This game is certainly a toss-up on a neutral court, but I’ll say that Kentucky wins a very-close game to reach the 2022 SEC Tournament championship game. Prediction: Tennessee 70, Kentucky 73
