One of the first four teams left out of the NCAA Tournament, the Texas A&M Aggies now enter the 2022 NIT Tournament as one of four No. 1 seeds. Beginning play on Tuesday night, the Aggies welcome Alcorn State to College Station.

Just missing the NCAA Tournament after an impressive run at the SEC Tournament, the Aggies had won seven straight entering Sunday, and own a 23-12 overall record for the year entering the 2022 NIT Tournament. Included in that most-recent stretch were impressive wins over two NCAA Tournament teams in Auburn and Arkansas, as well as falling to Tennessee 65-50 in the SEC Tournament championship game.

One of the top defensive teams in the SEC allowing only 66.9 PPG to opponents, Texas A&M are led by the trio of Quenton Jackson, Henry Coleman III, and Tyrece Radford, each of which are averaging in double-figures for the year. In addition to those three, Wade Taylor IV and Andre Gordon are also key guards for the Aggies, as well as Hassan Diarra who made some big shots for Texas A&M during the SEC Tournament.

Alcorn State on the other hand were one of the top teams in the SWAC during the regular season, and fell just short of the NCAA Tournament losing to Texas Southern 87-62 in the conference championship game. Finishing the regular season with a 17-16 overall record, the Braves started the season 1-11 in non-conference play, but went an impressive 14-4 in conference play, including winning eight-straight going into Saturday’s loss.

Averaging 66.7 PPG for the year, Alcorn State has a rotation with nine players averaging 18+ minutes per game, each of which are also averaging at-least 5+ PPG. Headlining this group are guards Justin Thomas, Dominic Brewton, and Oddyst Walker, while forwards Keondre Montgomery, Darrious Agnew, and Level Henry also play key roles.

With this game being played in College Station, the Aggies will obviously be considered as the clear favorite entering this matchup. Expect Texas A&M to pickup a double-digit win here, likely by anywhere from 15-20 points. Prediction: Texas A&M 80, Alcorn State 63
