Coming off a dominant win in the first round, Tennessee advances to the Round of 32 where the Volunteers will take on the 11-seed Michigan Wolverines.
As mentioned previously, Tennessee opened play in the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Thursday night when the Volunteers dominated 14-seed Longwood 88-56, never trailing against the Lancers. Bringing the Volunteers overall record for the year to 27-7, this win over Longwood marked Tennessee’s seventh win this season over an NCAA Tournament team, as well as their seventh consecutive win dating back to the regular season.
Shooting a combined 14-for-24 from three-point range, the Volunteers had five players in double-figures against the Lancers, a group that included guards Kennedy Chandler, Santiago Vescovi, and Zakai Zeigler, as well as the forward duo of John Fulkerson and Josiah-Jordan James. The nation’s No. 2 team in defensive efficiency according to KenPom, the Volunteers allow only 62.6 PPG to opponents defensively, while averaging 73.2 PPG offensively on 35.9% shooting from three.
An 11-seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Michigan is coming off a 75-63 upset win over Colorado State on Thursday afternoon, a game in which the Wolverines used a second half comeback to pull away. Bringing the Wolverines record to 18-14, Michigan has gone 5-5 across their last 10 games, with all five wins coming against teams in the NCAA Tournament.
Averaging 73.1 PPG offensively, the Wolverines are led by star center Hunter Dickinson (18.4 PPG, 8.3 RPG), as well as the impressive freshman frontcourt duo of Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate. Terrance Williams II and Brandon Johns Jr also play key roles in the frontcourt, while Eli Brooks and DeVante’ Jones are the top options at the guard position.

Tennessee vs Michigan 2022 NCAA Tournament Prediction
Despite their record, Michigan is certainly a dangerous team matched up with the Volunteers, one that has a player in Dickinson that could cause some troubles for Tennessee inside. This is a game that Tennessee should win however, but don’t be surprised if it ends up being closer that you might think. Prediction: Tennessee 75, Michigan 70
