One of the SEC’s top teams in the 2022 NIT, Texas A&M hosts Oregon for a second round matchup in College Station.
A one-seed in the 2022 NIT, Texas A&M opened tournament play with a 74-62 win over Alcorn State on Tuesday in the first round, the Aggies eighth win in their last nine games. Bringing the Aggies record to 24-12 for the year, Texas A&M will once again play at home in the second round, a place where they hold a 14-4 record inside Reed Arena this season.
Despite a slow start against the Braves on Tuesday, Texas A&M dominated the second half with four players in double-figures, led by a double-double from guard Tyrece Radford. Alongside Radford, others such as Quenton Jackson, Henry Coleman III, and Wade Taylor IV will play key roles offensively for an Aggies team that averages 72.8 PPG, as well as three other guards in Manny Obaseki, Hassan Diarra, and Andre Gordon also seeing time.
Looking at Oregon however, the Ducks picked up an impressive win in the first round defeating Utah State on the road 83-72, a game in which they dominated the second half. Bringing Oregon’s record for the year to 20-14 overall, this win however marked only the Ducks fourth victory in their last 11 games, a stretch that included wins over Washington State, UCLA, and Oregon State.
Averaging 72.7 PPG for the year, the Ducks are led by four double-digit scorers in Will Richardson, Jacob Young, De’Vion Harmon, and Quincy Gerrier, while four others will likely see a significant amount of time. Among those names, Eric Williams Jr, N’Faly Dante, and Franck Kepnang will see time in the frontcourt, with Rivaldo Soares as a key option at the guard position.
