Coming off an impressive performance in the first round, SEC regular season champion Auburn advances to the Round of 32 to face the 10-seed Miami Hurricanes in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
As mentioned previously, Auburn enters the Round of 32 coming off an 80-61 win over 15-seed Jacksonville State, a game in which the Tigers claimed the lead due to a late first half run and never looked back. Bringing the two-seeded Tigers record to 28-5 for the year, this marked Auburn’s fourth win across their last six games, as well as the sixth time in their last seven games they allowed under-70 points to an opponent (South Carolina had 71 in regular season finale).
One of the nation’s top offensive teams as well (rank No. 25 nationally with 78.8 PPG), the Tigers received a phenomenal 20-point and 14-rebound performance from SEC Freshman of the Year Jabari Smith, as well as SEC Defensive Player of the Year Walker Kessler finishing one block shy of a triple-double. Guards KD Johnson, Allen Flanigan, and Wendell Green Jr were also impact scorers in the first round, while forward Jaylin Williams’ availability may be unknown due to an injury against the Gamecocks.
Miami on the other hand secured their spot against the Tigers in the Round of 32 with a 68-66 upset win over seven-seed USC in the first round, a back-and-forth contest in which the Hurricanes led for a majority. Turning the ball over only three times themselves, the Hurricanes were outstanding defensively collecting 12 steals off 18 USC turnovers, but also struggled in a few areas as well, most-notably going only 1-for-14 from three-point range.
One of the ACC’s top teams at 24-10 overall, Miami has won eight of their last 11 games dating back to the regular season, and are led by a talented group of guards in Kameron McGusty, Isaiah Wong, Charlie Moore, and Jordan Miller, each of which average in double-figures. Leading a group that averages 74.8 PPG on a combined 47.8% shooting from the field, Sam Waardenburg is also the Hurricanes primary option in the frontcourt, while Anthony Walker, Bensley Joseph, and Wooga Poplar all saw time off the bench in the first round.

Auburn vs Miami 2022 NCAA Tournament Prediction
Similar to Jacksonville State in the first round, Miami’s guards have the potential to give Auburn some trouble at times, each of which are capable of taking over a game offensively. However, the Tigers will have a big advantage down low with Smith and Kessler, and should win this matchup against the 10-seed Hurricanes because of it. Prediction: Auburn 75, Miami 66
