If you have been following college football recruiting recently, then you will likely know that one of the programs to watch for when it came to a potential massive commitment happening was Tennessee Football.

Well, that commitment in fact did come for the Volunteers on Monday afternoon when Tennessee Football landed five-star quarterback and Top 10 national player Nicholaus Iamaleava, a player who had been rumored to be trending to the Volunteers recently.

Why the commitment of 5-star QB Nicholaus Iamaleava to Tennessee Football is significant

When taking an early look at Iamaleava, it’s clear to see why this was a significant pickup for head coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Football program overall.

One of the top overall recruits in the 2023 class, Iamaleava is rated as a five-star quarterback out of Long Beach Poly High School in California, as well as the No. 7 overall player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. At 6-foot-5, there may arguably be no signal caller with more pure-talent and upside in this class than Iamaleava, a quarterback who can beat you with both his arm and his legs.

Committing to Tennessee over a final five of Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Oregon, Iamaleava is undoubtedly now set as the Volunteers quarterback of the future, and will likely be considered as the starter in Knoxville from day one.

Looking ahead for the Volunteers 2023 class however, this is where the commitment of Iamaleava may come to benefit Tennessee the most.

Now the fifth highest-rated recruit in Tennessee Football history, as well as the highest-ranked quarterback since Casey Clausen back in 2000, there is no denying that the commitment of Iamaleava could potentially cause a “ripple-effect” for the Volunteers going forward.

For a 2023 Tennessee class that currently holds commitments from two pass catchers in Ethan Davis (Collins Hill, GA) and Nate Spillman (Lipscomb Academy, TN), the Volunteers will likely now at-least be in the mix for some of the nation’s top wide receivers going forward.

Whether they will land some of the top names from the Classes of 2023-24 is another question, but there is no denying that Knoxville could potentially become an intriguing destination for recruits going forward with the five-star now set under center.
