After posting impressive wins in the first two rounds, Texas A&M will host Wake Forest in the quarterfinal round in a matchup between two of the top overall teams in the 2022 NIT.

Texas A&M continues to be one of the hottest overall teams in college basketball having now won nine of their last 10 games, clinching the Aggies a spot in the 2022 NIT quarterfinal round with a 75-60 win over Oregon on Saturday. A game in which they led for almost all of the contest, the win over Oregon not only extended Texas A&M’s overall record for the year to 25-12, but it also marked win No. 15 for the Aggies inside Reed Arena this season (Texas A&M owns a 15-4 record at home this season).

Averaging 72.9 PPG offensively for the year, the Aggies are led by guard Quenton Jackson (14.5 PPG), as well as two other double-digit scorers in Henry Coleman III and Tyrece Radford who both also average 6+ RPG to lead Texas A&M. In addition to those three, the Aggies rotation primarily consists of multiple guards such as Wade Taylor IV, Hassan Diarra, and Andre Gordon, while freshman Manny Obaseki is also coming off one of his better games of the season (11 points, 7 rebounds vs Oregon).

Wake Forest on the other hand has also picked up two impressive wins so far in the 2022 NIT at home, topping both Towson and most-recently VCU 80-74. One of the ACC’s top teams that just missed the NCAA Tournament, the Demon Deacons now sit at an impressive 25-9 on the year, and will be traveling to College Station where they own a 5-5 record away from home this season.

Ranking No. 18 nationally in PPG at 79.3, Wake Forest is led by the 2021-22 ACC Player of the Year Alondes Williams (18.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 5.2 APG on 51.3% shooting), along with a frontcourt full of impact scorers in Jake LaRavia, Isaiah Mucius, and Dallas Walton. Daivien Williamson (12.2 PPG on 40.5% from three) is also an impact scorer alongside Williams at the guard position, while Damari Monsanto and Khadim Sy are both also key players for the Demon Deacons.
