1. Auburn Tigers

While a majority of the national attention this spring could go to College Station and Baton Rouge, Auburn is the biggest SEC Football quarterback competition to watch for this spring. Why you ask? It’s certainly the most wide-open of the three, with arguably no clear favorite entering the spring.

With 2021 starter Bo Nix having transferred to Oregon, TJ Finley does return after appearing in nine games a year ago, a span in which he threw for 827 yards and six touchdowns. While you could make an argument that Finley is the leader entering the spring, an argument however can also be make for the previously mentioned Calzada who transferred earlier this offseason from Texas A&M.

Taking over as the Aggies starter early last season, the junior threw for a total of 2,185 yards across 12 games a year ago, while also throwing for 17 touchdowns during that span. The first of two transfer quarterbacks for the Tigers this offseason however, Auburn also landed former in-state prep star Robby Ashford, a two-sport athlete who did not see playing time at Oregon the past two seasons.

While the competition did become a bit clearer recently when former four-star Dematrius Davis announced he was transferring, it still appears to be wide-open between four options as the spring rolls along. Speaking of the fourth as well, don’t forget about incoming four-star Holden Geriner either.

As mentioned at the start, there is always the chance that these three SEC Football quarterback competitions are not completely decided this spring. However, it does seem like we will at-least have a leader for each that will begin to emerge across the next couple of weeks. Who do you think the starting quarterback will be at Texas A&M, LSU, and Auburn in 2022?
