The final SEC team still playing, Texas A&M has advanced to the semifinal round of the 2022 NIT where the Aggies will face the Washington State Cougars.

Having won 10 of their last 11 games, Texas A&M continues to be one of the hottest teams in all of college basketball in recent weeks, a span that includes a dominant 67-52 win over Wake Forest in the 2022 NIT quarterfinals. A game in which the Aggies never trailed, Texas A&M carried a 32-15 lead into halftime with their defense as the difference maker forcing 21 Wake Forest turnovers, as well as holding the Demon Deacons to a combined 34% shooting.

Now sitting at 26-12 for the year, the Aggies come into this game averaging 72.7 PPG for the year, as well as having allowed a combined 58 PPG to opponents across their last three games. Led by the trio of Quenton Jackson, Henry Coleman III, and Tyrece Radford, the Aggies will also primarily use three other options at the guard position, a group that includes Wade Taylor IV, Hassan Diarra, and Andre Gordon.

Washington State on the other hand has won seven of their last eight games dating back to the regular season, bringing their record for the season to 22-14 overall. A stretch that included a home win over Santa Clara in the first round of the 2022 NIT, the Cougars have since added two impressive road wins at SMU and most-recently at BYU to advance the semifinal round.

Similar to Texas A&M previously, the Cougars have been strong defensively across their last three games where they have allowed a combined 57 PPG to opponents while averaging 71.7 offensively during that span, almost identical to their season average of 71.9 PPG. Led by guard Michael Flowers (14.4 PPG on 37.6 3P%), Washington State also has a backcourt full of talented scorers such as Tyrell Roberts, Noah Williams, and TJ Bamba, while the frontcourt rotates numerous options headlined by Efe Abogidi and Mouhamed Gueye.

Texas A&M vs Washington State 2022 NIT Prediction

Two teams that you could certainly argue matchup well, this will likely be a very-close contest from start to finish. However, it’s hard to pick against Texas A&M based on the way they are currently playing, so I’ll say the Aggies win by a slim margin. Prediction: Texas A&M 68, Washington State 65
