One of the nation’s top uncommitted 2022 prospects, Auburn Basketball landed a massive commitment on Thursday afternoon from five-star center and Top 20 national player Yohan Traore.

5-star C Yohan Traore commits to Auburn Basketball

The nation’s No. 15 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite, Traore is a name that you might actually be familiar with if you keep up with college basketball recruiting within the SEC.

A former LSU commit, Traore was originally committed to the Tigers for about two months earlier this year, but was one of multiple players who announced they were decommitting from LSU after the school parted ways with former head coach Will Wade. Announcing his decision to decommit back on March 22, Traore quickly after released a Top 4 list of Auburn, Gonzaga, Michigan, and Texas Tech from which he has now chosen the Tigers.

As mentioned previously, Traore is rated as a five-star center who attends Dream City Christian in Glendale, AZ. The top-ranked player in the state of Arizona, Traore is also rated as the No. 4 overall center nationally.

The addition of Traore is now Auburn’s third commit of their 2022 class, a group that was ranked as the sixth best in the SEC entering the day, as well as No. 36 nationally. Joining four-star forward Chance Westry and three-star guard Tre Donaldson, Traore is also now the Tigers second-highest ranked recruit in program history (247 Sports Composite) behind only Jabari Smith, as well as only the fourth five-star in Auburn Basketball history.

A versatile athlete at 6-foot-10 and 225 pounds, you can now officially pencil in Traore as the replacement for Smith in the Tigers 2022-23 starting lineup, likely starting at the four should 2021-22 SEC Defensive Player of the Year Walker Kessler return to Auburn next season. If Kessler chooses to go pro however, Traore will then likely enter 2022-23 as Auburn’s starting center.
