13. South Carolina Gamecocks

For the first time in over a decade, South Carolina will enter the SEC Basketball season with a new head coach as former Chattanooga head coach Lamont Paris takes over for Frank Martin. As for what year No. 1 could look like for the Gamecocks under Paris, South Carolina’s 2022-23 roster is currently unclear as numerous names have entered the transfer portal, combined with only two commits in their 2022 class.

As of right now, the Gamecocks will largely be counting on extended roles in 2022-23 from names such as Chico Carter, Jacobi Wright, and Josh Gray, as well as potentially a few players who could return using their extra year of eligibility. The transfer portal action in the coming weeks will be a big deciding factor for the 2022-23 Gamecocks roster, as well as if South Carolina can land five-star GG Jackson, one of 2023’s top recruits who is a potential reclassification candidate.

No. 12 Missouri Tigers

The Dennis Gates era in Missouri will begin next season with a roster that is currently full of experienced pieces at multiple positions. Yes, even despite having lost a few names already to the transfer portal, the Tigers are also currently set to return a few key contributors as well with none bigger than Second Team All-SEC selection Kobe Brown.

Alongside Brown are other senior guards in Amari Davis and Jarron Coleman who are also set to return as of right now, while Missouri has also added Milwaukee transfer guard DeAndre Gholston (14.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG in 2021-22). The Tigers 2022-23 roster could potentially see some additional portal movement in the coming weeks, but if things hold as they currently are, Missouri could have one of the more experienced starting lineups in SEC Basketball next season.
