Looking at the offseason for Alabama Basketball up to this point, the Crimson Tide roster has seen a few names enter the transfer portal, as well as declare for the NBA Draft.

Because of this, it seems likely that the Crimson Tide themselves will be active in the portal this offseason as Alabama looks to pair some experienced transfers with their talented incoming freshman class.

Well, the Crimson Tide did land the first of those names on Thursday in what can simply be described as a significant addition to their 2022-23 roster, as well as a player you could certainly argue is a perfect fit with the way Alabama plays.

Alabama Basketball and Ohio transfer guard Mark Sears are a perfect fit

One of the top players to enter the portal so far this offseason, Ohio transfer guard Mark Sears announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Thursday afternoon.

A 2021-22 First Team All-MAC selection, Sears is coming off a phenomenal sophomore season with the Bobcats in which he averaged 19.7 PPG, 6 RPG, 4.1 APG, and 1.7 SPG. Ranking among the conference’s leaders in multiple statistical categories, Sears also shot an impressive 44.3% from the field, as well as 40.8% from three and 88.5% from the free throw line.

It’s instantly obvious by the stat-line alone that Sears was a significant pickup for the Crimson Tide. As mentioned previously as well, Sears you could certainly say is a perfect fit based on the way that the Crimson Tide play on the court.

At 6-foot-1, Sears will certainly be one of Alabama’s top scorers in 2022-23, and could both start games for the Crimson Tide, as well as become a sixth man option off the bench. An elite scorer from all three levels, Sears will excel playing in Alabama’s NBA style offense where he is a tough to stop in the open court, and is an excellent three-point shooter who can pull up in transition.

The addition of the talented guard will certainly prove to be an impactful one for the Crimson Tide backcourt in multiple different areas, with Sears set to be a key piece of Alabama Basketball’s 2022-23 roster.
