For an LSU Basketball team that lost almost every player from the 2021-22 roster to the transfer portal, as well as every commit in their 2022 class, the Tigers entered the offseason with a lot of uncertainty surrounding the program under new head coach Matt McMahon.

Because of this, it seems likely that the Tigers will be one of the SEC’s more active teams in the portal this offseason, having already landed a few notable names such as Murray State’s Justice Hill and Trae Hannibal.

Well, the Tigers added yet another name to that list on Friday night when LSU received a commitment from NC State transfer guard Cam Hayes.

NC State transfer guard Cam Hayes commits to LSU Basketball

A former four-star recruit out of high school from the Class of 2020, Hayes has spent the previous two seasons at NC State where he has appeared in a total of 55 games, 27 of which were starts.

Averaging 22 MPG between the two, Hayes also averaged a combined 7.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 2.5 APG with the Wolfpack, as well as shooting 35.5% from the field and 29.9% from three. While the shooting numbers from Hayes did take a step back this past season compared to his freshman year, the rising junior is a player that takes advantage of his opportunities at the free throw line where he is a combined 75.6% shooter across the past two seasons.

At 6-foot-3, Hayes is an experienced guard that could see time at multiple different positions for the Tigers, while also a candidate to see a starting role in 2022-23. While his exact role on the depth chart is still likely yet to be determined until the Tigers roster is filled out, Hayes is certainly a player that will see a significant amount of minutes next season.

As mentioned previously, this will likely not be the final transfer portal addition for LSU Basketball this offseason. However, it’s clear that the Tigers 2022-23 roster is beginning to take shape, led by a solid backcourt.
