5 positions to watch for during the 2022 Alabama Football spring game
Offensive Tackle
The Crimson Tide did recently land a commitment from Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen, a lineman with a notable amount of SEC experience who will likely start at one-of-two tackle positions in 2022. As for the other tackle position, former five-star JC Latham could be the favorite to start, while others such as Damieon George, Amari Kight, and Tommy Brockermeyer will also be names to watch for on Saturday.
Center
The other big position battle along the Crimson Tide’s offensive line comes at center where both Darrian Dalcourt and Seth McLaughlin saw time last season. Dalcourt was the primary starter during the 2021 season before suffering an injury, with McLaughlin taking over at the end of the year.
Inside Linebacker
Alabama Football does return one starting inside linebacker from last season in Henry To’o To’o, but will be tasked with replacing a three-year starter at the position in Christian Harris. Among the options competing for the starting job, Jaylen Moody is the most-experienced of the group, but others such as Demouy Kennedy, Deontae Lawson, Kendrick Blackshire, and freshman Jihaad Campbell will all be names to watch for as well.
Wide Receiver
For an Alabama team that lost their top three wideouts from last season, the Crimson Tide’s wide receiver room is still one of the deepest in the country, a group led by Ja’Corey Brooks and Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton. As for how the depth chart will look behind them, numerous names such as Traeshon Holden and JoJo Earle headline the returning options, while talented freshman Aaron Anderson is a name to watch on Saturday.
Quarterback
Yes, 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young is returning for his junior season in 2022. However, the main thing to watch for on Saturday when it comes to the quarterback position is from the backup job, one that is between the returning Jalen Milroe and five-star freshman Ty Simpson.
