A team that has landed numerous transfers this offseason, LSU Football landed arguably one of the biggest of that group on Tuesday morning when former Ohio State cornerback Sevyn Banks announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Ohio State cornerback Sevyn Banks transfers to LSU Football

A former four-star recruit from the Class of 2017 out of Orlando, FL, Banks has spent the last four seasons with the Buckeyes. An experienced player, the talented corner has appeared in a total of 36 games across that span where he has totaled 43 combined tackles, 11 PD’s, and two interceptions.

The senior was also on a few notable award watch lists before his 2021 season at Ohio State such as the Thorpe and Nagurski, as well as a preseason Third Team All-American selection.

For an LSU Football secondary that has struggled at times each of the last two seasons, Banks is yet another addition this offseason that should help revamp the Tigers defensive back group overall.

Alongside Banks, the Tigers are set to bring in four other notable transfers in the secondary alone during year one of the Brian Kelly era. That group includes two Arkansas transfers in Greg Brooks Jr and Joe Foucha, as well as Oklahoma State transfer Jarrick Bernard and Louisiana transfer Mekhi Williams-Garner.

While it is likely that just where each of those names lineup on the field in 2022 is still to be determined, it is also likely that each of the five play a significant role regardless.

Looking at LSU’s transfer class overall, Banks marks overall transfer addition No. 15 for the Tigers this offseason, bringing the total number of new faces in Baton Rouge this fall to 30 in the 2022 class. Included in that 2022 class are also two freshman corners in Laterrance Welch and Jaelyn Davis-Robinson, both of which could play key depth roles in 2022.
